Beautiful desolate landscape with a fantastic mountain hut

The climb from Orsières to Ferret is highly recommended. You need around 18km to overcome a good 800 metres in altitude. There are always flatter sections where you can relax. The further you drive into the valley, the smaller the road becomes and the more breathtaking the nature. A trip up to the Val Ferret is particularly worthwhile in autumn. That's when the larches shine wonderfully golden. Together with the snow-covered peaks and the blue sky, this creates an incredible natural spectacle. The road leads through La Fouly and Ferret to a car park below the Alpage Les Ars Dessous. From there, two hiking trails lead further up towards the peak, which marks the border with Italy.

A pass that will live forever in the shadow of its big brother just around the corner, however, it is a fantastic place to visit and much quieter than the Grand Col Ferret, as it is not part of the popular Tour du Mont-Blanc . Many trails lead to this point, allowing for all sorts of trails and versatility - all of these trails are multi-use hiking trails, so be sure to consider other people during your stroll. This pass is also perched on the Swiss/Italian border, with great views and great routes on both sides.

Smaller and less busy than its neighbouring Grand Col Ferret, the Petit Col Ferret offers some great views into both Italy and Switzerland, as well as the sea of mountains within both of them. The trails leading to and from this col are perfect trail running terrain, as well as being slightly quieter than the nearby trails which are used by the popular Tour of Mont Blanc and UTMB.

From this point you can enjoy excellent views of some imposing mountains and glaciers, including Mont Dolent and Tour Noir. To the west of these mountains lies the legendary Chamonix valley and the Argentière basin, a vast glacial basin, while to the east, on the Italian side, the landscape is stark and rugged, offering magnificent views and inspiring.

Free large parking lot that can be used for an extended period of time without restrictions for the TMB tour. Halfway to Col Ferret there is a hut that serves food. It took me 1.5 hours to get to Col Ferret in the snow from La Fouly, and the descent from the Col to Courmayeur took another 3 hours because the path is very steep. https://youtu.be/eu_RPR989TI
