A very beautiful waterfall 💦

The picturesque village of Cala is beautifully situated on a hill above the Val Chironico and offers a fantastic view of the opposite peaks 🏔️ The village center with the fountain is ideal for a little break 😉👍🏻

Ces is a formerly abandoned mountain village on a plateau in northern Ticino (1450 m above sea level) and, together with four other "montis" (summer pastures), belongs to the Chironico district of the municipality of Faido in the Valle Leventina. Ces is far from the traffic chaos and can only be reached on foot, a two-hour uphill walk. Even on the way up, you come across a varied landscape, and in the village itself you will notice the naturally cultivated plateau with waterfall, moorland and rare flowers. Ces is located in a hunting reserve. The village consists of around 25 houses and stables, some dilapidated, others rebuilt, and a chapel. A third of the buildings belong to us, the self-managed "Foundation for the Reconstruction of Ces" (Fondazione FRC). Since 1972, we have been working together to ensure that the village and its surroundings retain their traditional characteristics and that Ces is open to alternative and communal forms of living and working.

The Barougia stream originates on the ridge that divides Val Leventina from Val Verzasca and flows into the Ticino near Giornico. Here you can admire a stone bridge and a small waterfall that forms a pool of water. In summer it is very inviting for a refreshing bath.

The church of San Michele a Giornico dates back to the 13th century and was originally built in Romanesque style. Over the centuries it has been transformed in Renaissance and Baroque style and is dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo, patron saint of the Lombards.

The church of San Maurizio in Chironico dates back to the 13th century, and is dedicated to the martyr Maurizio. It has undergone several transformations over time, and its position on a promontory overlooking the Ticinetto makes it easily visible in the panorama of the Leventina Valley.

The Rierna gorge is a deep fissure carved out by the river of the same name in the Val d'Ambra, a side valley of the Lower Leventina near Personico. From here you can admire the characteristic white rocks, and by going a little further into the gorge you arrive at a waterfall.

The ancient stone grottos of Personico are typical rural buildings of the lower Leventina Valley, in the Canton of Ticino. They were used to keep food cool and to shelter from the summer heat. They are testimonies of a simple and traditional life, linked to nature and the territory.
