Landskron is located in Alsace, on French soil. It is one of the most important and impressive castle ruins in the area. Entry is free. There are numerous barbecue areas in and around the castle that are waiting to be lit. From the top of the tower, you get a unique view of Alsace, the Vosges, the Black Forest and the Rhine plain. Anyone who visits Château du Landskron should definitely pay a visit to the Mariastein monastery in "nearby" Switzerland.

For me, the most beautiful ruin I have ever visited. A very beautiful place that can be combined with wonderful hikes in the Leimental. Perfect for family outings, there are barbecue areas. Entering the ruin is at your own risk. There is a warning about falling rocks, and rightly so.

A new, relatively short stretch of cycle path from Flüh to Leymen. It runs along the tram line. Together with the cycle path from Biel-Benken to Flüh, there is an alternative with a little more altitude, but without traffic instead of the main road down at the riding stables. And the view is nicer here anyway...

In 1628, the Protestant nobility was forced to emigrate, and the castle was confiscated. In 1639, Count Dietrichstein acquired Landskron. On October 24, 1648, through the Treaties of Westphalia and Münster, which ended the Thirty Years' War, the Habsburg lands and territories in Alsace passed into the hands of the King of France. In 1812, lightning struck, and the magnificent castle burned to the ground. In 1953, Hans Maresch established a first-class café-restaurant in the remaining ruins. After his death, his sister, Christine Kunz, took over the castle ruins and, through further renovations, brought the restaurant to its current state.

Several cycle routes run between Oberwil, Therwil and Reinach in the direction of Laufen/Blauen and Biel-Benken/Neuwiller. A special panoramic trail runs from Basel-Bruderholz via a forest path to Therwil and then further along vineyards to Reinach/Aesch. I wish you a lot of fun and relaxation.

The castle ruins are currently being restored. The tower is closed, as are the metal stairs towards Grenzwächterweg. There are several barbecue areas around the castle ruins that are well used. So pack your barbecue meat and picnic blanket and relax ☀️😉

At the end of the 13th century, the castle was built by the Münch of Basel (city nobility in the service of the bishop). In the 15th century, it was expanded under the Reichs to become one of the most beautiful castles in the surrounding area. Despite the beautiful facade, it was given a 5m thick wall to protect it from the Swiss Confederates. The Reichs supported the nearby pilgrimage site (Mariastein). The miracle of Mariastein, for which the chapel was built, is connected to the survival of one of the Reichs' sons from a fall. A picture of this can still be seen in the chapel. In 1814, Allied troops blew up most of the castle. Until the early 1980s, the castle was known in the wider area for its Barbary macaques, which were kept there and mostly ran around freely.

Currently, Ferrette's account title is carried by the Prince of Monaco thanks to the marriage in 1777 of his ancestor Grimaldi with heiress of Mazarin
