Castelnou is a very beautiful town. Well worth a visit.

This village lies at the foot of the Aspres and is surrounded by two limestone plateaus, the Causse de Thuir and the Roc de Majorque (altitude 443 m). Founded in the 10th century, it seems to have been forgotten by time after serving as the capital of the Viscounty of Vallespir for more than three centuries.

Castelnou is situated at the foot of the Aspres Mountains, with the legendary Catalan mountain Canigou in the background.

Nice little collar, very accessible

During the descent, you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the Serra de l'Albera and the valleys surrounding Boule-d'Amont. As you approach the village, the landscape opens up and you can see the typical stone houses of the place, surrounded by fields and hills. The views of the valley and the mountains covered with Mediterranean vegetation make the route visually impressive.

The gravel descent from La Bastide towards Boule-d'Amont combines country roads and gravel paths. The descent features moderate gradients, but is technical enough to keep the interest of cyclists with experience on this type of terrain. The route passes through oak and pine forests, offering shaded and open sections, with views of the valley and surrounding mountains.
