This magnificent little village is located on a height. The brick terraces of the southern part of the city overlook the Pyrenees and offer splendid sunsets. Carla-Bayle owes its name to the French philosopher Pierre Bayle, born in the village in 1647. He was a scholar and a thinker mixing skepticism and rationalism. He is the author of the famous historical and critical dictionary of 1697 which announces the spirit of the Enlightenment. So much so that encyclopaedists will hail Bayle as one of their inspirations. Here is one of his famous quotes: "The more we study man, the more we know that pride is his dominant passion, and that it affects greatness even in the saddest misery." Come stroll through the streets of Carla, you won't regret it.

Just if you feel like a challenge, this way into St Ybar is pretty steep. Garmin gave a percentage of 21 %, throughout the, fortunately short, climb. I'll recommend the Rue Côte de la Sauveterre to get in St Ybar.

A nice alternative to get from Bastide towards Daumazan or vice versa. Nice and easy, you will be able to avoid the sometimes busy traffic on the D628.

A nice, easy route form Beaumont sur Lèze towards Saint Ybar. The route roughly follows the river Lèze (D74) and is a very nice alternative for the busy D4 which runs on the other side of the river and is mainly used by cars and trucks.

A nice, quiet, alternative route from Beaumont towards Lezat. Easy cycling, nice field, especially when they are covered with sunflowers. Much better then the busy D4, which follows roughly the same route.

Nice, easy route east of the river Lèze. Great landscape with almost no traffic. Follow D74 from Beaumont-sur-Lèze, all the way to Saint-Ybars.
