Challenging and beautiful! Not a walk in the park - good shoes and a sure-footedness are a minimum requirement. Be careful, the paths can be narrow with steep slopes on both sides. Level T3.

A wonderful view of the panorama around Lake Brienz! But you have to earn this view. The climb is demanding, at times at level T3. In addition, the entire tour is peppered with countless steps, none of which are the same as the previous ones. Some of them are very high and require strength to climb up. The tour up this wonderful ridge should not be underestimated. Good shoes and surefootedness are a must. You should also not be afraid of heights and be considerate of other hikers on the sometimes very narrow path. Crossing is not always easy, and it is often very steep - on both sides of the ridge.

The Augstmatthorn is an impressive mountain in the Bernese Oberland, known for its breathtaking views and rich wildlife. At 2,137 meters high, the summit offers spectacular views of Lake Brienz, the surrounding Alps and, in clear weather, even as far as the Jura. The hike to the Augstmatthorn often starts in Habkern or Lombachalp and leads along well-marked paths through a varied landscape. The trail is challenging and requires surefootedness, especially on steep and rocky terrain. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with wide panoramic views and the opportunity to spot ibexes and other alpine animals.

On the entire section of the more or less narrow ridge between the Horetegg and the Brienzer Rothorn, when the weather is nice you have great views to the south of Lake Brienz and the mountains of the central Bernese Oberland and to the north of the Swiss plateau, the Jura, the Black Forest and the mountains of the eastern main Alpine ridge.

When the weather is good, you can look across Lake Brienz to the Schynige Platte with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the background.

From Suld (Restaurant Pochtenfall at 1080m) you can make a perfect circular hike via Greberegg to the Brunnihütte up to the summit of the Morgenberghorn at 2249m, the descent then via the alpine hiking trail in the direction of the Renggli Pass Latreje and, once you have arrived at the bottom of the valley, back to Suld past the Pochtefall. Beautiful round trip 🤗

The secondary summit of the Augstmatthorn is approx. 2085 m high. From here you have a wonderful view of Lake Brienz and Interlaken.

The Augstmatthorn is a 2136 m above sea level. M. high peak in the Emmental Alps, a subgroup of the Bernese Pre-Alps. It rises in the central part of the approx. 25 km long Brienzergrat, which stretches from the Harder Kulm near Interlaken via the Augstmatthorn and Brienzer Rothorn to the Brünig Pass.

When ascending from Suld im Wald, be sure to use the new mountain path in the direction of Grebenegg. The old way is no longer maintained. But you can do it - but it's Sch... :-)
