Beautiful town with medieval charm. The castle can be seen from afar. Many bars, restaurants and shops in the village. From the direction of Saint Girons, a well-signposted cycle path leads along the old railway embankment. Always a great view of the Pyrenees.

Located at the confluence of the Arget with the Ariège, in the so-called Pays de Foix, a region that approximately corresponds to the nucleus of the old county of Foix. Its most notable monuments are the castle of the counts (from the 11th century) with three towers from the 12th, 14th and 15th centuries, and the Gothic abbey church consecrated to Saint Volusian, archbishop of Tours in the 5th century. The city arose around an oratory built by Charlemagne that in the 10th century became the abbey, which survived until the French Revolution.

Quite worthwhile for a photo, but it's not a particularly good place to take a break here. There are neither shady places nor seating. If you come by here anyway, you can stop for a moment.

After the plains, towns, villages and farms, we approach the foot of the Pyrenean foothills. The woods become denser and take precedence over the corn and sunflower fields. Pastures where beautiful limousines graze, interspersed with woods. The road rises slowly but surely, passes along cliffs and sometimes walks in narrow rocky corridors. The passage to the wash house of Raissac can be the occasion to refresh oneself and to sit down a little before starting the last descent on Lavelanet.
