In front of this small sacred monument, I would like to share the following thought with the viewer: "What is new and beautiful for me is the realization that I find God in wonder! I am often pleasantly surprised by something special that I cannot explain, something that simply leaves me standing in awe. And I can be amazed by so many good and special things if I am attentive and do not take things for granted. I can be amazed by creation, by people, by encounters, by circumstances, and by much more that arises in everyday life. Once again, the hiker – or pilgrim – passing by here will notice that this extremely exposed location was obviously chosen with care as the site for a wayside cross. The proverbial "ravages of time" have already left their mark on this small, sacred stone monument: the capital, which tops the round shaft supporting the cross, is damaged, as is the end piece of the longitudinal beam above the crossing. The cross has no body, but the attentive observer will notice one special feature: at the intersection of the longitudinal beam and the crossbeam, a heart can be seen, interpreted here in the Christian sense as a symbol of God's infinite love for humanity, whose son, Jesus Christ, redeemed us through his death on the cross.

This beautiful ensemble has its origins at the end of the 12th century. It underwent significant transformations during the 15th century, notably to make it habitable. The castle is open to visits without appointment in July and August (closed on Mondays). Outside of this period, only planned group visits are possible. The estate also offers tastings and a treasure map to create with the family.

You will discover the village of Mercurey and its different hamlets, with splendid winegrowers' houses made of Burgundy stone. The autumn landscapes are magnificent.

The town owes its name to a Gallo-Roman temple dedicated to Mercury. With around 1,300 inhabitants, Mercurey has preserved a quality historical heritage. The village owes its wealth to viticulture and is still a popular stopover for oenophiles and hikers.

The Notre Dame de Mercurey church has been listed as a historic monument since 1941. Above all, see the altar, the tabernacle and the altarpiece with its statues.

This is the image we have of a castle: battlements, towers and curtain walls. What a contrast to the vines stretching out in front of the chateau, laden with Chardonnay grapes.
