A short but steep tour with a magnificent finale: Sunset on the Gehrihorn – with views of the Kandertal, Niesen, Blüemlisalp & all the way to the Jura 🌞🏔️ 🥾 Tour information Starting point: Alp Ober Gereren (~1,610 m) – accessible by car via Kiental (good but steep mountain path, CHF 10.-) Ascent: approx. 360 m – Duration: 1–1.15 hours Trail: clearly visible, but steep & alpine (T2) – especially in the upper section (short exposed sections, surefootedness required) 🌅 Why the Sunset is worth it: Spectacular view of the entire Kandertal, the Bernese Alps, Lake Thun &, on a clear day, as far as Mont Blanc Evening atmosphere on the summit = magically tranquil & colorful Good opportunity to descend with a headlamp after sunset; if you descend early, no headlamp Headlamp required (about 45–60 minutes back to the alp).

Great for a stay before heading to the summit

A great base for tours or as a destination, with a rustic alpine flair and fantastic views toward Niesen, Lake Thun, Gerihorn, Justiztal, Niederhorn, etc., especially from the easily accessible Morgenberghorn (2-hour ascent). Accessible from Aeschiried-Greberegg, Därligen, Leissigen, through the Suld Valley, and Saxeten. From Lake Thun, the 1,000-meter climb is a worthwhile experience. From Greberegg, there are fantastic views toward Interlaken and Lake Brienz. The alp is a must-see.

From this point (1.300 metres above sea level) you get a spectacular view over the valley.

🚗 The starting point of the hike is in Wimmis at the Schnitzelscheune. Parking is available (free). Alternatively, you can also travel to Wimmis by train and start from there. 🚶‍♂️The tour to the Sunnighorn from Wimmis is demanding and requires surefootedness and a head for heights. The route mostly runs along alpine hiking trails, with only a few secured climbing passages. Start the hike at the Schnitzelscheune and follow the signs towards Sunnighorn. The path takes you through varied landscapes and gradually climbs. The climb gets steeper the further you go and offers great views of the Bernese Oberland and the surrounding mountains. The climbing passages are rare and well secured, but offer an additional challenge. 🧗‍♂️Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Bernese Oberland.

Definitely worth a break - and buy some Alb and/or goat cheese for your picnic on the Morgenberghorn.
