The Colorado Auvergne: a magical place with red cliffs of several sedimentary layers. The first layers date back more than 400 million years. The upper part of the cliff was created by a lava flow.

The church of Saint-Nectaire dominates the town on Mount Cornadore. It was built between 1146 and 1178 and is dedicated to Saint Nectaire, who was the evangelizer of Auvergne.

The church of Saint-Nectaire, also known as Notre-Dame du Mont Cornadore, is famous for its remarkable reliquary treasure, but also for its 103 Romanesque capitals. It is in fact one of the Auvergne jewels of the 12th century. It is built entirely of local lava stone.

Notre Dame du Mont Cornadore or Church of Saint-Nectaire is celebrated among other things for its treasure and its 103 capitals, in particular those of the choir forming one of the most remarkable sets of Romanesque sculpture in Auvergne. These historiated capitals were like an open book offering the faithful a form of monumental catechism. Saint-Nectaire is also well known for its cheese which takes the same name as the village. It is to my taste one of the best French cheeses.
