In Peronne, the Musee de la Bataille de la Somme is particularly worth seeing. Within sight of the castle is the town square and a few cafés where you can take a relaxing break.

The former fortified town of Péronne had a hard time in 1914-1918. In a modern museum, the daily life of the soldiers and the population during the First World War is vividly depicted. but Péronne is also famous for its eel and colvert beer. The city is a trading and marina on the Canal du Nord, at the confluence of the Cologne and the Somme, and extends along the fish-rich ponds and hardines, vegetable farms.

The Frize Lock is a lock that regulates the water level of the canal and allows boats to navigate. This lock was built in 1883 and replaced six old locks dating from 1770.

A nice little castle that deserves a short stop!

The contrast is striking on this stretch of road which runs along the Somme, here transformed into a canal. In 2018 it was a grassy path. Today this comfortable macadam has replaced the jolts of the track.

The town of Péronne is really charming and deserves a stop. The Somme here forms natural ponds that surround the city, giving it an undeniable attractiveness. Its old center is on a small hill which dominates the whole.
