The Porte d'Aire is located on the southern side of the city and is one of the four gates that are still preserved from the medieval city walls. The gate has a characteristic serrated edge and is decorated with a carved coat of arms and a red inscription.

Climb that gets steeper and steeper towards the end. When you get to the market you have a small street on the other side where you can cycle to the highest point.

Very pretty road/path in the trees. It climbs quite hard and the bitumen is in very poor condition but it's okay on a road bike with 28' wide tires

The Mont du Cassel, on which the beautiful little town of Cassel sits, is the highest point in French Flanders. It was strategically important in several wars. Nowadays you can enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape from up here and stop off in one of the cozy cafés in the old town.
