The Zinkenkopf is the northern pre-summit of the Roßfeld, a north-grazing ridge of the Göll massif, which separates Salzach and Berchtesgadener Ache.
It is the local mountain of the city of Hallein and the village of Bad Dürrnberg as well as the Berchtesgadener district Oberau, rises in the Salzachtal rather inconspicuous in the ridge, from the city of Salzburg as a preliminary spring Gölls, but turns in the massive mountain frame of the Berchtesgadener basin as a small, but distinctive pyramidal tip.
