These are very old flints, protected in the Natagora site. No fewer than 13 cave entrances follow one another along the path. They are not deep and run along the slope. Chalk was also mined there.

Flints are dark grey to black and have a white crust. Flints are very brittle - if they are hit hard against each other they splinter. This creates smooth fracture surfaces with sharp edges. Sparks can be generated by hitting flints against each other.

In ancient times flints were also used to make axes and knives.

In the Thier des Vignes nature reserve you will find very old flint caves, protected by Natagora. There are a total of 13 cave entrances along the trail. They are not very deep and run along the slope. Chalk has also been mined here. Entering the caves felt good (and nice and fresh on a hot day). One is of course a bit nicer, deeper, higher/lower than the other.
