      "... Around 1850, the people of Briedel built seven massive Stations of the Cross with sandstone reliefs up the Sünd. To furnish the Sündkapelle as the final point, an old Pieta from the secularized Enkircher monastery was acquired. The Pieta in the Sündkapelle was lost several times, most recently in 2005 after a theft. replaced.

      With the expansion of the Bergstraße around 1894, more carts were used and the frequency of the Sin Chapel as a shelter decreased, while the popularity as a silent prayer chapel increased.

      For many years, the gallows stood nearby, on which some judgments of the Briedel high court were carried out. The convicts were allowed to say a final prayer in the Sin Chapel. Even today, the gallows staircase hewn into the hard rock, a connecting clasp from the old local jail on the ring wall to the Sündweg, bears witness to this practice.

      By the way: The name Sündweg and Sündkapelle does not come from sin, although one could assume that based on history. The name comes from the Latin »simeta« and was transformed via the Middle High German word Sinten and means path, footpath. The path is still called Sond in the local dialect. The field names "Send" and "auf der Send" for the adjacent fields and meadows at the height are also documented in early documents to this day. ..."
