The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is free to visit and open 24 hours a day. The memorial has inscriptions of over 58,000 names of those who died in the Vietnam war. The memorial includes the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall, as well as the Three Servicemen statue. While visiting the Vietnam Women's Memorial is close by.

The 1982 Vietnam Veterans Memorial commemorates soldiers who perished in the Vietnam War. All names are recorded on the vertical stone wall along the gently sloping path that cuts into the mall's flat lawn. Maya Lin, who was an architecture student at the time, designed the memorial: a simple and poignant piece of landscape art and a very worthy memorial.

I met war veterans there who visited their comrades or thought of their comrades there. The names of the 58,261 (as of May 2009) killed and missing in the Vietnam War are carved into the wall, including 7 Germans. It was very interesting to talk to the veterans and to hear their stories and experiences.
The Three Soldiers (also known as The Three Servicemen) is a bronze statue on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. commemorating the Vietnam War and complementing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial built in 1982
