On the calcareous dolomite layers of the Eifel municipality of Fleringen you will find a botanical rarity on a small hill: the Krausbuche, also called Süntelbuche or Teufelsholz. Used as a court book in the Middle Ages, it has always been a worthwhile destination for Sunday excursions and happy festivals for the village youth. The old curly beech in the picture has long since withered. Fortunately, 3 new trees of the same kind have developed in the same location.

The curly beech (or hanging beech) is something special. Curly beech trees are a freak of nature, mutations that are not common. It is particularly nice to have a picnic with children under the canopy of the curly beech tree. In this natural house you are even protected from a light rain.
