The Chiemsee is the second largest lake in the former Federal Republic of Germany. In all of Germany, only the lakes in the Mecklenburg Lake District are larger. At the Chiemsee there are many small fish, bird observation towers and rare birds, such as the North Sea bird oystercatcher or one of the three rarest breeding birds in Germany, the ferruginous duck (both in Rimsting/Prienmündung, where you can also bathe and swim very nicely).
