Bonaparte Beach, named after the code name given to this historic site during World War II, is also known as Anse Cochat. It has the unique feature of being accessible via a tunnel carved into the rock.

From this stretch of beach, now known as "Plage Bonaparte," members of the French Resistance smuggled 135 English and Canadian pilots—including Jane Birkin's father—whose planes were shot down to England during World War II, past the Nazis. Commemorative plaques in the tunnel still bear witness to these events.

At low tide (before checking tides) a beautiful wild sandy beach, where dogs are allowed even from 16 September to 14 June all day long.
From 15.6.-15.9. they are only allowed before 10 o'clock and after 19 o'clock.
We were on 14. + 15. September was there, and the whole beach was still full of dogs ... 😁
