The Sint-Niklaaskerk is the church of the Abbey of Postel. According to written sources, the church was consecrated in 1190. Judging by the architectural style, the early 13th century is believed to be the construction of the oldest parts of the current church. In 1626 part of the church was modified in a Gothic sense. A ridge turret was replaced in 1769 by a west tower, and after a lightning strike it was rebuilt in 1883.

The abbey church was built in the Romanesque style, its construction period is dated to the end of the 12th century around 1190. Since then it has been rebuilt several times and today also shows Gothic and Baroque elements. The abbey was surrounded by ramparts and partly by a moat.
