In the 1980s, Westerstede's cityscape was modernized considerably. In this context, the market square was also redesigned and Alice Peters-Ohsam was asked to design a fountain. She developed a circular and tiered system consisting of a pool with a round stone slab. This serves as a base for the fountain system, which was cast in bronze. A tall fountain is placed in the center, around which five smaller fountains are arranged in an outer circle.
On another level below, the gushing water is collected in small basins before it is returned to the fountain circuit. Alice Peters-Ohsam was inspired by natural watercourses when designing the fountain. The surface structure of this facility is reminiscent of the residue of falling water and the fountains associate whitewater streams in the mountains or geysers.
