Dating back to the 3rd century, the ruins of Temple of Mithras are a fascinating remnant of Roman religion. Mithras was a god beloved of Roman soldiers; the remnants of many Mithraic temples can be found near Roman military bases. This was is on the site of Brocolita fort, thought to be named after the Celtic word for 'badger holes'.
