The baroque castle Delitzsch is one of the oldest castles in Saxony. It contains a museum worth seeing and next to it there is a very beautiful baroque garden. In front of the castle there is a restaurant in the former castle guard.

In 1389-91 Wilhelm I of Meissen had a medieval moated castle built, the tower of which has been preserved to this day. Delitzsch Castle served as a travel residence for the Saxon rulers and was the seat of the sovereign offices.
From 1540 it was remodeled into a Renaissance-style castle. During the Thirty Years' War the building fell into disrepair, but was still used as an official residence.
After the Saxon state division in 1657, Delitzsch fell to the secondary principality of Saxe-Merseburg. Its Duke Christian I chose the Delitzsch baroque castle as a travel residence and widow's residence and had it expanded and rebuilt from 1689 onwards. This is how a baroque castle was created based on the French model, which still impresses with its interior today.
After the extinction of this Saxon branch line in 1738, a finance and rent office was housed in the castle. In 1860 a women's prison was set up, which existed until 1926. In 1929 the museum moved in.
Today, the Delitzsch baroque palace is a cultural institution and is protected as an architectural cultural monument. The building houses the Delitzsch Baroque Castle Museum, the city's tourist information office, the registry office, the district music school and the castle cellar, which is used as a sound vault.
