THE CHERRY - THREATENED WAPPING
The capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) is the heraldic animal of the Bavarian Forest Nature Park e.V .. This largest grouse is regarded as a "guide" for species conservation in the forest mountains, because the protection of the capercaillie recorded at the same time also the typical mushrooms, plants and animals in the habitat mountain forest.
The approximately goose-sized "Urhahn" belongs to the original wildlife of the Bohemian Forest massif. In the Red List of endangered animals of Bavaria and Germany, he had to be classified among the "endangered animals".
For this reason, the Bavarian Forest e.V. Nature Park is working hard to preserve this rare, largest airworthy forest bird in Europe.
