The late medieval castle Laubenbergerstein was founded in the 12th century by the bishops of Augsburg. It is located on the main road in the north of Immenstadt and guarded once the important Illerübergang and the associated customs station. The castle stands on a small hill that climbs in five minutes.
From the formerly mighty plant are still two towers and numerous wall remainders, which let the former entire structure well understand.
The castle ruin was renovated over more than 30 years by the home association and can be visited at any time. The towers are accessible at the Castle Walks and Castle Festival.

Laubenbergerstein Castle is a masterpiece of medieval fortification art. The castle was first mentioned in the 13th century and was then under the family of Heinrich von Laubenberg zu Laubenbergerstein. In 1490 the castle was looted three times by the neighboring count Hugo von Montfort, so that it was largely rebuilt and expanded by the wealthy lord Kaspar von Laubenberg. It is precisely this defensiveness and the special routing within the castle complex that makes it a particularly interesting castle. It was located on a mountaintop that was not forested at the time and guarded an old Iller crossing, just 50 meters below, the bridge and customs of which belonged to the castle. In 1559, the lords of the castle relocated to the newly built Rauhenzell Castle, so that the neglected main castle was already described as neglected and partially ruinous in 1629.
