Mettendorf is a village-shaped township in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in the southern Eifel.
The first written mention dates from 832 in the Golden Book of the Abbey Echternach. There Mettendorf is listed under the name Machconvillare.
Further names exist with metendorph (1063), mectindorf (1345), villa metendorp (1360), mettendoirff (1451), meittendorf (1563) and Mettendorf (since 1621).

First, the place belonged to the Abbey Prüm before he came in 1220 to the Luxembourg County of Vianden. Here Mettendorf was then the seat of a jury and the main place of a dairy egg. Count Henry I of Vianden handed the place in 1248 to the brought into the country Trinitarierorden, who built in 1477 after Viandener template also a two-nave church. History: Mettendorf was first mentioned in 832/833 in the "Golden Book" of Echternach Abbey. As with many places in the region, today's settlement has its origins in the Frankish period. Numerous finds on the district even point to a settlement dating back to the Stone Age and the later Roman period. The local center of the village has always been the church, which was built in 1477 and expanded in 1895.
