The lodge stands on the Trent side of the Vršič peak and just above the Vršič pass, through which the Kranjska Gora-Trenta-Bovec road passes. The first hut in this place was built by the SPD on the initiative and with the help of dr. Josip Tičar, President of the Kranjska Gora branch of the SPD; The Slovenska koča hut was opened on 4 August 1912. It was occupied by Austrian soldiers during the First World War and by Italian financiers between the two world wars. opened on September 15, 1946. After the death of Dr. Josip Tičar (1875-1946), it was renamed Tičarjev dom, which was thanks to the father of Slovenian mountaineering in the Upper Sava Valley and co-founder of GRS. a new, large and modern home, which was inaugurated on July 31, 1966. The old home was demolished. the sale of postcards and souvenirs, and the home has been greatly improved and modernized in recent years, with electrical and plumbing renovations and a kitchen modernization in 1992. The home is open from the beginning of May or June to the end of October.

From the home there is a wider view only to the south. On the eastern side, behind the southern slope of Vršič and Sovna glava, the walls of Prisojnik can be seen; on the south side we see the road that descends towards Trenta and part of Velika planina, and behind the last Trenta a chain of peaks with Srebrnjak and Bavški Grintavec.
