The listed Amtsbergturm, also Burgtorturm, in Wittenburg, Am Amtsberg 3, dates back to the Middle Ages.
The first early medieval castle was destroyed by Henry the Lion in 1150 and replaced by a new massive castle complex.
The three-storey late medieval Gothic gate tower (or keep) is the rest of the castle complex and the only surviving part of the official building erected in 1848. It stands on the old foundations of the castle and is made of rock and brick masonry above.
Next to the tower is the one-storey local history museum. Remains of the medieval castle are still visible in a park.
In 1998, the remains of the tower were renovated and reconstructed as part of urban development funding, and a glazed third viewing level was created, which is also used for exhibitions.
