The pharmacist Paul Brath built the Strangendamm in 1911. From the attractive little wooden bridge you have a beautiful view of the Kirchensee and the Schaalsee.

The Schaalsee basin was created as a subglacial tunnel valley system during the Frankfurt ice advance. The Strangen is on the western edge of the resulting hollow shape, as is the 8.5 m deep Kirchensee, which is a former bay of the Schaalsee. The eponymous peninsula "Strangen" and an artificial dam to the south separate the Kirchensee from the Schaalsee. To the west of the peninsula, extensive bog formations have developed on shallows. Due to the immediate border location, the area was inaccessible for many years. Today it is part of the "Green Belt".
