    Created by Jean-Max Llorca in 2006, the water mirror is a Bordeaux monument which is located on the quays opposite the Place de la Bourse. Its 3,450 m2 make it the largest water mirror in the world.

      The Bordeaux water mirror is a shallow feature of water reflecting the Bordeaux quays and Place de la Bourse. In operation since 2006, it has an area of 3,450 m² and an underground reservoir of 800 cubic meters, making it the largest in the world. Created by the fountain designer Jean-Max Llorca, the architect Pierre Gangnet and the urban-landscaper Michel Corajoud, the system allows a mirror effect to appear one after the other with 2 cm of water on a granite slab and a fog effect that can reach up to 2 meters in height. It is also the central element of the Quays which were also redeveloped by Michel Corajoud.           "The historic center of Bordeaux was declared a cultural monument with the so-called Port of the Moon, as the city is poetically called after the crescent-shaped bend of the Garonne River (Port de la Lune). Since the 16th century, the city's bourgeoisie has stood for self-confidence, the desire for freedom, pride and independence. A bourgeoisie that, thanks to its far-reaching trade relations, thanks to the natural harbor on the banks of the Garonne, used its location to maintain economic relations with England or Portugal, with North Africa or South America for centuries.               The Miroir d’eau de Bordeaux is one of the city’s most iconic attractions. Located on the Place de la Bourse, facing the Garonne, it is the largest water mirror in the world, with a surface area of 3,450 m². Designed by landscaper Michel Corajoud and inaugurated in 2006, it alternates between mirror and fog effects thanks to an ingenious system of fine sheets of water and misting.

              This place is particularly popular with Bordeaux residents and tourists, especially in summer, when it becomes a fun space for children and an ideal setting for photos. It beautifully reflects the 18th-century facades that surround it, creating a unique play of light and symmetry, especially at sunset.

              A symbol of Bordeaux’s renewal, the Miroir d’eau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the entire Port de la Lune. It is a must-see for anyone visiting the city!
