This Franciscan monastery is often simply called Fulda Monastery. It stands on the Frauenberg hill and is surrounded by the beautiful Frauenberg Park. The monastery complex also features a remarkable monastery garden. On the way to the garden, you can view the Passion of Christ in several brick display cases.

On the hill now called Frauenberg, you will find a restaurant with a beer garden and a beautiful, expansive view of Fulda and the surrounding area. The monastery church and monastery garden, set in a spacious park, are worth seeing. There is also a guesthouse.

A brief overview of the history of the place:
In 744, Sturmius came to Fulda to build the Fulda Monastery on behalf of his master Boniface. Boniface followed him a little later to inspect the progress of the construction company himself. As the monks of that time reported, Boniface withdrew to a mountain north of the construction site to find peace from the construction noise and to pray and study the Holy Scriptures. He also occasionally celebrated masses on the mountain, for which he consecrated an altar in the previously built wooden church.

Abbot Ratgar (802–817) had the church on Bischofsberg rebuilt because the wooden church was in danger of falling into disrepair.
The church on the hill then called Bischofsberg remained Fulda's parish and community church until around 1049, when the city parish church took over this function.
After the church on Bischofsberg had served its purpose as a community church, Benedictines moved into the monastery and into the church. Since the church was under the patronage of the Mother of God and became Fulda's Marian monument over the course of the 11th and 12th centuries, the name "Mons s. Mariae", i.e. "Marienberg" or "Mountain of Our Lady", is increasingly found in sources. This became the popular name Frauenberg, as it is still called today.
The church and the monastery were destroyed and rebuilt several times over the course of time. In the 17th century, Frauenberg lay fallow for 50 years before the Franciscans settled here. The deed of transfer for Frauenberg was issued in January 1626.
The monastery church in its current form was rebuilt in the late Baroque style from 1758 to 1763 following the fire of 1757. Next to the church, hidden behind a high wall, lies the extensive monastery garden, which is now accessible to all visitors to Frauenberg and invites you to linger.

The Franciscan monastery, established in 1623, is located in a park on one of Fulda's seven hills, offering magnificent views of the city of Fulda and the surrounding Rhön and Vogelsberg mountains.

The monastery complex is a late Baroque building with a church with artistically valuable furnishings, which was extensively renovated by the end of 2003.
