The Fortress Predel was one of the six forts that formed the system of Carinthian forts. It stands a few hundred meters from the Passage Pass. The first fort was erected during the Napoleonic Wars. During the war, it was burned twice as a result of angry fighting. In 1848 they decided to build a new one on the site of the old fortress. It served its purpose until 1880, when a commission found that the fort no longer complied with modern military regulations, so it was turned into a military warehouse. The building had this function until the end of the First World War. Because no one maintained the building after the war, it collapsed, so that only relatively well preserved walls can be seen today.
