The old town of Stolberg around the castle used to be a center of copper and brass production in Germany with its historic half-timbered houses and the so-called copper courtyards. Today, Stolberg has the nickname "copper city and oldest brass city in the world". The picturesque old town with its narrow streets was renovated in the 1970s and 1980s and is not only worth a visit for those interested in the industrial history of this region.
