Bremen looks back on 1,200 years of history and tradition. The market square is the center of the Hanseatic city with its historic buildings and the House of Citizens. On the west side, from left to right, is the savings bank with the facade from 1755, next to it the council pharmacy and the "Akzise" from 1595 (replaced by a New building 1830) and the "German House" from more recent times.

A particularly interesting eye-catcher is the Town Hall, which, along with the Bremen Roland statue, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St. Peter's Cathedral, the Bürgerschaft (city hall), and the Schütting (small square) also have an exciting story to tell.

To the right of the Heralds is the New Town Hall. It was built between 1909 and 1913 according to designs by Gabriel von Seidl, an architect from Munich. Architecturally, the New Town Hall perfectly complements the Old Town Hall. It is also thanks to this fact that both parts, along with the Roland statue on the market square, have been included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The New Town Hall houses the mayor, the Senate Chancellery, and the state government.
