The Teufelskanzel is a rocky outcrop south of the Laacher See with a fabulous view to the south over Kruft and the surrounding area. Directly to the south is a very idyllic little forest lake. Unfortunately, the view to the north towards the Laacher See is blocked. But that doesn't matter, with such an otherwise great view!

A nice view with a break in the direction of Kruft and Koblenz. You can clearly see the Rhine flowing in the north of Koblenz. The larger of the two lakes at the foot of the pulpit is the Krufter Waldsee (eifel.info/a-krufter-waldsee). Here you can swim, but not on Sundays.

If you start at the parking lot of the Waldsee, it is worth to circle it halfway around and then take the path to the Teufelskanzel in a sharp right turn. The path is steep but doable. Watching, walking slowly, sometimes taking a break and thinking about the next steps can be helpful as well as sturdy shoes. The view from the Teufelskanzel is terrific, just wonderful, it's worth it

If you walk down the path to the parking lot at the Waldsee in the far-away serpentines, you will find some of these overviews. The view to Hunsrück, Taunus and Westerwald is incredible

The Teufelskanzel is located east of the lava mountain Krufter Ofen (463 meters high). The rocky outcrop is jagged and has large holes in the base.
From the Teufelskanzel there is a wonderful view of the Krufter Waldsee.
The lake was created by groundwater when pumice was mined and refilled.
Swimming in the lake is only possible on working days in the marked area.
The view extends to the Taunus, from Ochtendung (right) over the Koblenz radio tower to the Rhine (left).

The eruption of the former Laacher See volcano 250,000 years ago threw tephra (ash) into the air, which covered the Middle Rhine Basin as a meter-high layer of pumice (16 billion cubic meters).
The pumice stretched from Krufter Ofen to Hummerich near Nickenich. The lake was formed by groundwater when pumice was mined and refilled.
Bathing in the lake is only possible on working days in the marked area.
The view extends to the Taunus, from Ochtendung (right) over the Koblenz radio tower to the Rhine (left).

Warning: steep incline. Not recommended when wet. Sturdy shoes and good grip necessary.
