Sunwapta Lake is located at the foot of the Athabasca Glacier (part of the Columbia Icefield). Access to the lake is via Highway 93 / Icefields Parkway north of Sunwapta Pass. The pass marks the boundary between Jasper and Banff National Parks.

During our visit the weather was unfortunately not so nice, but the lake and glaciers were an interesting and worthwhile excursion destination.

Sunwapta Lake is a high mountain lake at 1,960 m above sea level in the Canadian Rockies, to which one of the highest mountain roads in the country leads.
The road to the lake in Jasper National Park is called Glacier Road (1.1 km long), is paved and is normally closed in winter (mid-October to mid-April).
