              The source of the Elbe is located on the ridge of the Giant Mountains (1386 m) on the Elbe meadow (Labská louka). The real source of the Elbe is in the peat bogs about 150 to 300 m from here and is not open to the public for nature conservation reasons. In 1968, a stone wall was erected here with the colored city coats of arms of the 26 important cities through which the Elbe flows into the North Sea.

                The Elbe (Czech Labe) begins its 1154 km long run in the high moor called "Labská louka" (German Elbe meadow), below the Veilchenspitze (Czech Violík).
                The actual source of the Elbe is about 300 meters to the west in the middle of the "Elbwiese", but its access is prohibited for nature conservation reasons.

                Its symbolic source (brick ring with inflow and outflow) is at an altitude of 1386 m above sea level. dm.
                The area of the spring belongs to the place Špindlerův Mlýn (German spindle mill).

His extremely imaginatively told "Flight to Egypt - Royal Bohemian Part" (a Christmas fairy tale for adults) has the legendary Lord of the Giant Mountains - whose real name no one knows to this day, but whose nickname you should be careful not to say when you are staying there - come into action in one chapter. The Holy Family is being pursued by a gendarmerie sergeant and his dog (who has been taken in by the devil) in order to arrest them and send them back to King Herod, who wants to have the baby Jesus murdered. This is where the Lord in question intervenes and lures the sergeant into a locomotive to follow the refugees. This locomotive then takes off from the tracks at full speed, circles in the air over the Giant Mountains and then drops the two passengers over the snow-covered Elbbrunnen.
