Say "Die Huhle Lind"
At this point there used to be a mighty linden tree, around which a legend is entwined:
"Die huhle Lind"
The soul of the hard-hearted "Wild Count" (probably Ernst II. Von Schönburg), which found no rest after his death, is said to have been banished to this tree. Here it rumbled for a few years.
When a storm uprooted the linden tree at the end of the 19th century, forest workers found a skeleton with a soldier's saber and uniform in the hollow trunk. Presumably a deserted recruit from the war of 1756 had hidden in the hollow trunk and could no longer get out.
Certainly he called and for a few days
knocked before he finally died of hunger and exhaustion. Lonely forest walkers will have believed in a "ghost" and anxiously walked on.
