It is a large system of underground caves with two entrances. Cueva del Gato is the lower exit of the cave, with an impressive waterfall. The upper entrance is about 4 kilometers further north, in Montejaque, with the name Cueva del Hundidero.

The natural monument Cueva del Gato consists of a cave and the rocky outcrop from which flows the waters of the river Guadares or Gaduares. It is located in the municipality of Benaoján, a few kilometers from Ronda, in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. The landscape is beautiful, both because of its natural and its cultural values.

Crystal-clear water gushes from the spring, flowing through an underground passage over four kilometers from the Garganta del Hundidero to the outflow in the Cueva del Gato. Actually, the cave is the southern end of a speleological unit called the Hundidero-Gato system, but usually the whole complex is called the name of this most famous cave. It is the most important system of karstic origin in Andalusia, with sifas, lakes, rock holes, canyons and caves that can reach up to 70 meters in height.
