If you follow the castle path in Dorf Tirol from the parish church, after a few steps you will have a wide view over the vineyards to the Etsch Valley and the Vinschgau. Also in the picture is Tyrol Castle, which sits majestically on a moraine hill. It can be reached in about 20 minutes on the busy, sunny Schlossweg, which also leads through an 83 meter long tunnel - called Knappenloch.

Definitely nice and cool and a bit of a change on the way to the castle. A traffic light regulates traffic for cars and pedestrians here.

The path from Dorf Tirol to the main castle originally led around the moraine slope on which Rubein Castle stood. Because of the brittle ground and falling scree, Jakob Andrä von Voglmayr, administrator in Tyrol, had Schneeberg miners drive an 83.5 m long tunnel through the slope in 1682. A relief picture above the entrance to the "Knappenloch" bears the inscription: Leopoldus I imperator gloriosus viae istius autor. (Emperor Leopold I, glorious author of this path). The main reason for the construction of the tunnel was the anniversary of the Tyrolean sovereigns and all members of the House of Habsburg on November 19, the feast day of St. Elisabeth For almost 700 years
This anniversary is celebrated with a service, which is always attended by illustrious guests in the castle chapel.
