          The “Lichtlhöhle” is always a recommendation. Unfortunately, contamination often occurs. If you're unlucky, you'll have a day like this.
          Be careful, there is always a risk of falling rocks.
          It should be clear that Hampel did not scrape the entire caves out of the rock. He wasn't the only one scratching. He only made money from it and became famous because he was too careless.
          Back then, it was common practice to sprinkle wooden floorboards with sand and scrub them clean. The villagers of the surrounding towns also fetched the sand, and existing layer joint caves were expanded (Hampel cave, ice cave, etc.). Coves have been scratched out in the Lichtlhöhle.
          The Lichtlhöhle was created completely differently. After the sandstone slab was lifted, the sea surf roared against it and whirlpools formed the cave. The sea disappeared, the cave remained.
          In the mid-1970s, the front layer of the rock wall slipped and closed the cave until it was made accessible again.

                    The Lichterhöhle (Light Cave) is a large, easily accessible cave on the south side of the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein (Little Hennersdorf Stone).
                    It got its name from the candles placed at mountaineering celebrations.
                    Around 1870, Friedrich Herrmann Hempel, a resident of Königstein, began commercially mining sandstone, which was crushed and ground and sold to inns and soap factories as scouring sand. This significantly expanded the cave. Sand mining was later banned by the authorities.
                    A ledge collapsed in early 2012.

                            Sand mining in the light cave
                            This joint cave was artificially expanded in the 19th century for the mining of fine sand. The main part was made by the legendary SANDHEMPEL
                            H.Hempel from Koenigsten and his family started mining in 1871.
                            The soft rock was broken, crushed and sieved. The "free washing-up, scouring and hallway sand" was sold with the handcart as far as Dresden.

                                Nice little hike from Papstdorf (also for tired children's legs).
                                Past the fallow deer enclosure. If you are lucky up here, the search for caves will be even more exciting. The head torch makes it even more professional for little researchers.
