Monument du debarquement: Memorial on Omaha Beach, the landing beach of D-Day on 06.06.1944, which was actually fiercely contested. Unlike the other landing beaches, the Allies had heavy losses here. The Memorial commemorates primarily the First US Infantry Division, which had to carry the bulk of the attack. Numerous fallen GIs lie on the nearby US military cemetery. The place around it unfortunately only consists of frying boxes and souvenir shops. The beach, on the other hand, is beautiful, but has been suffering more and more from maladjustment for a few years now.
