The world's largest double vertical boat lift at Lüneburg Scharnebeck at the time of construction was built in 1974 and offers a remarkable technical spectacle.
The ship lift offers modern cargo ships the opportunity to overcome a height of 38 meters. The planning of the lift took decades. To create a connection between the Elbe (Artlenburg) and the Mittelland Canal (Wolfsburg), engineers built the Elbe Side Canal in eight years.
A height difference of 61 meters is overcome along the entire stretch of the Elbe Side Canal. Of these, the Uelzen lock bridges 23 meters and the remaining 38 meters the Scharnebeck boat lift.
The Scharnebeck boat lift annually counts around 500,000 visitors and guests. An experience for young and old, no matter whether family or group excursion.
I always find it very impressive - you should have a look when you are in the area. I can definitely recommend it.

In our climbing forest you can experience excitement, thrills and yours

At a height of 3 - 4 m for the little ones and up to
15 m for the bravest, almost 70 fantastic stations await you.
The absolute highlight is our free fall from 15m (!) Height -
and our zip line course with a total length of 435m!
You can find us in Scharnebeck right next to the boat lift,
only 30 minutes from Hamburg and at the gates of Lüneburg,
in a beautiful beech forest on a size of 40,000 sqm.
