          Quite picturesque, the old wine-growing village of Château-Chalon is located on a rocky spur, with far-reaching views over the vineyards of the Jura - and is therefore rightly considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. Located on the GR 59.

            Château-Chalon lies on average at 435m, about ten kilometers northeast of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura, at the transition from the Bresse plain to the first Jura plateau, on a steep slope east of the Seille.
            The jump from the plain to the first Jura plateau is particularly pronounced here. While the edge is usually barely higher than 120m, at Château-Chalon it reaches almost 200m.
            It is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France (Plus beaux villages de France).
