The observation tower Hohes Kreuz on the Hohlen Berg, it is located on the hiking route between Muggendorf and Engelhardsberg, the approx. 12 meter high tower offers a good all-round view.

The name is derived from the many caves (Oswaldhöhle, Wundershöhle, Doctorshöhle and Witzenhöhle) that are located in the mountain. The tower is around twelve meters high.

The observation tower, which consists of a steel and wood construction, is 522m high and was built in 2011, replacing an older tower that previously stood here. The tower has a height of about 12m.

The tower or the mountain has two names 'Hohler Berg' and 'Hohes Kreuz'. The name 'Hohler Berg' comes from the fact that there are numerous caves around the mountain, so the mountain below is 'hollow'.

With the new (newly built in 2012), 12 m high observation tower, the Hohe Kreuz -

the highest elevation of the "hollow mountain" (522 + 12 m) - is equal in height to the Adlerstein -> the view extends over 270° from the Wiesenttal with the Neideck, over the Aufseßtal, to the Fichtelgebirge to the Ochsenkopf, in the east to the Upper Palatinate region - on a clear day :)
