Hohenneuffen Castle - an unforgettable, unique setting in a magical place. That is the slogan of the castle restaurant Burg Hohenneuffen. There is something for everyone, from hikers to business people. The medieval ambience is something very special for all visitors. In addition to a simple stopover, events such as weddings and other celebrations are also held. For many, the knight's meal is a very special highlight. And after the meal, a visit to the falconry is a lot of fun for young and old.

The castle complex is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Restaurant opening times:

April 1 to October 30:

Wednesday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (kitchen from 11.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Sundays and public holidays 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (kitchen from 11.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

The kiosk and castle complex are open daily, including Mondays and Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 31st to November 6th:
Open daily from 9am to 5pm (kitchen until 4pm)
November 7th to December 23rd
Saturday and Sunday 10am to 6pm (kitchen 11.30am to 5pm)
Closed on December 24th and 25th
December 26th to 31st 9am to 5pm (kitchen 11.30am to 4pm)
January 1st:
Only kiosk open from 10am to 5pm.

January 2nd to 8th:
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (kitchen open 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

January 9th to March 5th:

Restaurant and kiosk open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (kitchen open until 5 p.m.).

March 6th to 31st: Kiosk and restaurant Wednesday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (kitchen open 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

There are a total of seven state fortresses in Baden-Württemberg. The High Neuffen is a very beautiful fortress ruin, but not the largest. The largest is by far the Hohentwiel at singing.

Beautiful views (almost 360 degrees) in all directions. Has a small snack bar and public toilets. Restaurant is not always open. The castle itself suffered greatly at the beginning of the 19th century and is therefore only a ruin, although beautifully restored. More information about the castle can be found at hohenneuffen.de.

With a ceremony, a monument donated by Mechthild and Roland Munk was unveiled at the castle. In keeping with the 60th anniversary of the takeover of the Stauferlöwen as the coat of arms of the state of Baden-Württemberg, a Hohenstaufen memorial was unveiled at Hohenneuffen Castle. The octagonal memorial stone made from Jura travertine bordered with creamy white has been donated by Mechthild and Roland Munk from Degerloch.

The kiosk in the castle is open in January and offers mulled wine. Nice route very worthwhile. I would judge difficulty with means and there are several high viewpoints with beautiful views of the valley.

The castle Hohenneuffen is a popular destination with restaurant, beer garden and kiosk. The entrance to the castle is free. Worth seeing are the partially accessible casemates.

Every year in June the Hohenneuffen mountain run takes place, in which the runners from the start in Linsenhofen cover a distance of 9.3 km and 438 vertical meters. The organizers of the mountain run are TSV Beuren and TSV Frickenhausen. At the castle many other events take place, such as a medieval market or concerts in the courtyard. In the summer season there is a "falconry spectacle" on Sundays and public holidays where many birds of prey are shown in free flight. From April to October, the second Sunday of the month is a church in the open.

Very impressive is also the lighting of the outer walls on Sundays and public holidays. Originally donated by the Neuffen citizen Otto Krieg in the 1950s, the complex was completely renewed in 1984 by the city and cultural ring Neuffen e.V. and is maintained by the latter.

Indomitable Castle | Hohenneuffen
THE ATTACHMENT
The castle on the Hohenneuffen was constantly expanded in its 700-year history. The location on a rocky spur made it difficult to reach and the increasingly sophisticated fortress ultimately impregnable. The ruins of the complex with their walls, towers and casemates are still impressive today.
CENTER OF DOMINATION
When building the Hohenneuffen, use was made of the topographical conditions: the main castle stands high on a rock made of white Jura limestone. The castle, built by Mangold von Sulmetingen-Neuffen before 1140, was protected by a three meter thick shield wall, parts of which are still preserved. In addition, the complex was surrounded by a ring wall with a gate tower, the Allewindeturm. The castle was the seat of the Lords of Neuffen for almost two centuries. In 1301 it became the property of the Counts of Württemberg.

A FORTRESS FOR THE DUKE OF Württemberg
From 1543, Duke Ulrich von Württemberg and his successor Christoph expanded the Hohenneuffen into a state fortress. With powerful towers for the placement of artillery, bastions and a casemated wall more than three meters high, the dukes brought the fortifications up to date with the latest military technology. The Hohenneuffen transformed itself from a medieval castle into a large Renaissance fortress. The expansion contributed to the fact that the castle could only be conquered by voluntary surrender.
