Around 1900 the Berlin city administration began to set up educational institutions for orphans and neglected children outside the city. In 1914, the construction of the Landerziehungsheim of the city of Berlin in Struveshof began. The home was inaugurated three years later. It was intended to house boys between the ages of 12 and 18 and was supposed to be self-sufficient through its own farm.
