In 1855 the foundation was laid for the foundation of the guesthouse by a donation from brother Jacob Dijk, member of the Baptist Congregation. The guesthouse was only actually founded in 1872, after a few small homes on Nieuwe Boteringestraat were purchased in 1867.
In 1883 the guest house is again expanded with a few houses. By the way, in 1877 a second Doopsgezind Gasthuis was founded elsewhere in the city, but as early as 1897 this guest house moved to a new building on the site on Nieuwe Boteringestraat.

There are many courtyards in Groningen, this is one of the lesser known ones. If you want to visit a courtyard, realize that you are entering the house/garden of the residents. Behave yourself. Unfortunately, some courtyards can no longer be visited.
