As you can guess from the name, the Breggia Gorge Park takes its name from the river that forms these beautiful gorges and the magnificent pools that are found there, the Breggia River. At this point you can see a small bridge that crosses the river from one side to the other.

A trip to the park of the Breggia Gorges will be a real journey through time. In this region of the Mendrisiotto, along the river Breggia, one finds an exceptional geological condition: due to erosion by the water, a rock formation emerged that covers the period between the Jurassic and the Tertiary and dates back to 80 million years! Evidence of the ancient seas can be found in the rock: fossils, remains of underwater mires and signs of climate changes that took place in epochs before humans appeared on earth.
