Built in the 13th century, almost burnt down to the foundations in the 15th century and restored in the 1970s, Boymont Castle is now a popular destination in the Eppan castle region. In the inner courtyard there is a cozy castle tavern with a bowling alley, which is open in summer. The 2023 season starts in April suedtirolerland.it/de/highlights/burgen-schloesser/ruine-boymont.

Boymont was born around 1235 when the Bishop of Trento allowed Sir Henry de Lagestel to build a new castle on the Boimont hill. It is believed that the name means something like ox mountain. Heinrich von Lagestel was a respected ministerial in the entourage of Count Ulrich von Eppan, the landlord of Hocheppan Castle above Boimont. The size of the residential complex, which was built for more than one family, is striking. After the von Boimont family died out in the 14th century, the shares passed to the daughters and their husbands. The castle was destroyed around 1530, probably due to an arson attack. It was not then rebuilt. After several changes of ownership, Fritz Dellago acquired the castle in 1977. He had it restored and put back in working order.
